Our Mission: Restoring Communities One Family/Person at a Time

We can’t do everything, but we can do something. And when we do, we become part of something special for that one person in need.

Our Mission. Our Purpose.

Liberty Village Foundation is a family-oriented ministry that seeks out those who have a serious need.  We start with meeting the most basic of those needs and then progress from there often in collaboration with other existing ministries.  The basics start with. . .

The ultimate objective is to provide coaching in a way that empowers the individual/family to redevelop a more functional life where they experience life’s joys once again and feel their voice matters.  As a result of the families growing stronger/being restored, the community also grows stronger and is restored one by one.

The Beast That Eats Them

From time to time everyone has been hungry but that’s not what we’re talking about when we talk about fighting hunger. The hunger we’re talking about is chronic hunger, an insidious beast that torments the one who’s in it’s grip day after day. It can literally eat it’s victim from the inside out, attacking them physically, mentally and spiritually. Left to it’s own devices that beast will provoke unbelievably self destructive behaviors and eventually death.

The vast majority of people will never encounter someone in the later stages of chronic hunger mostly because they have faded into the shadows to await there final breath. Yes it can kill, and kids are the most susceptible as they lack the resources to cope with the situation but late stage adults just simply give up as they grow exhausted in the fight.

These days Liberty Village, in conjunction with others, directs most of the efforts toward feeding those experiencing chronic hunger, be they homeless or not, adults or kids. We provide hot food that meets their nutritional needs and other supplies as well. As best as we can, we also provide uplifting encouragement and spiritual guidance.

The need is unbelievably huge and with the economy being what it is, it’s going to get worse. We’d like to invite you to see for yourself first hand what it’s like so please consider joining us for a day or two on the front lines of the battle.

Our Story

Ever walked into a home that was supposed to be totally empty as in no furnishings people, power or water only to find someone living there?  I had that experience early in my real estate career and it was not only a spine-tingling shock but it became a great blessing.  So was my first real up-close encounter with the homeless.  Over a period of several months, I got to know Jeff pretty well and actually hired him to keep an eye on several abandoned properties we had bought till we could get them rehabbed and resold.

Since then, I’ve taken every opportunity I had to help the homeless and needy including numerous trips to the downtown area to pass out food and clothing as well as 16 trips to foreign countries (Haiti, El Salvador) to help those in need.   Somewhere around 2012, I had the opportunity to work on a team assessing the social needs of Johnson County.  I was not surprised to find homelessness showing up in the research along with hunger.  But what did surprise me was that homelessness and hunger in the outlying counties looked very different than what I has seen in the downtown area.

Then a real gut punch surprise hit me when I had the “opportunity” to experience the hunger aspect first hand and came within 30 days of being homeless.  Thank the Lord for answered prayer as He spared us from living in the car.  As we regained a more normal life, the concept of Liberty Village Foundation was born and in 2020 it officially became a legal entity.

What We Are Doing

In the beginning, we visualized Liberty Village providing temporary housing for the homeless, and that time is coming, but first we need to fulfill a more compelling need; feeding the those experiencing chronic hunger and food insecurity whether homeless or not.
Liberty Village, years from now, will cover a large array services including housing. Suffice to say that as a new kid on the block we must crawl before walking or running.  Thus we are starting with some of the more prevalent needs such as providing meals for the hungry and homeless as well as some clothing, and housing referrals. Stay in touch as we grow or better yet join the team and grow with us as we reach out to those in need.

Why We Are Doing It

To say the need is huge would be a serious understatement.  Recent surveys by Feeding America indicates that more than 9,300 people in just Johnson and Hendricks counties are not only below the poverty line but also have chronic hunger needs that are going unfulfilled. That’s the real world definition of food insecurity.
